Samuel Sánchez Gutiérrez es doctorando en Teoría de la Literatura y Literatura Comparada en la Universidad de Salamanca, donde desarrolla el proyecto de investigación Memoria poética: modulaciones lírico-épicas en la obra de Derek Walcott y Raúl Zurita, bajo la dirección de Víctor Bermúdez. Desde la obra poética de ambos autores, el trabajo aborda la cuestión de cómo la lírica, además de ser un canal para la comunicación de la memoria individual y colectiva, es capaz de prevenir la repetición de futuros traumas sociales a través de la articulación de modelos de acción y de emoción colectivos. Su estudio se propone elucidar, por un lado, los medios desde los cuales la poesía se ve implicada en procesos de conformación de la memoria tanto del sujeto como de la comunidad en la que se contextualiza, y por el otro, su capacidad para alentar la renovación de la agencia humana sobre el medio que ocupa. En general, su investigación se centra en la geopoética y en la fenomenología de las emociones, con particular interés en la permeabilidad de la mente corporeizada de los sujetos poéticos y cómo ello permite, teóricamente, la conformación de una relación íntima entre el «yo» y todos los elementos del universo literario.
Ha presentado avances de su investigación en cuatro universidades dentro de este marco de estudio. En la segunda edición del Seminario Abisal Margen de la Universidad de Zaragoza desarrolló una comunicación sobre las estrategias con las que Walcott reconstruye la identidad del Caribe alrededor de las propiedades físicas del mar. En el XIII Congreso Internacional e interdisciplinar de Jóvenes Historiadores «Las emociones en la Historia», investigó sobre la naturaleza de las emociones en la poesía española más reciente, y en las dos ediciones del Congreso Internacional de Teoría de la Lírica y Poéticas Comparadas investigó la relación entre cuerpo y paisaje en la obra de Walcott y Zurita. Finalmente, en el Coloquio Internacional «Emociones y dinámicas sociales de Europa/América: miradas cruzadas» (Université de Bretagne Occidentale) expuso cómo la obra de Walcott y Zurita se valen de la ficción para crear un nuevo modelo de subjetividad colectiva que impida, dentro de la lógica de su corpus, futuros actos de violencia social. Recientemente ha publicado el artículo «La memoria poética en Un viaje a la India de Gonçalo M. Tavares» (Actio Nova. 2024). Como poeta, ha sido Finalista del II Certamen Literario LGTBI de FLGTB, antólogo de Sombrillismo. Antología literaria,y autor de Diálogos de lo mundano y lo sublime (Cuatro Hojas, 2022). Desde 2025, es miembro de la International Network for the Study of the Lyric. Forma parte del Comité organizador del Congreso Internacional de Teoría de la Lírica y Poéticas Comparadas y del equipo de COPOS – Cognition in Comparative Poetics de la Universidad de Salamanca.
Samuel Sánchez Gutiérrez is a PhD candidate in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the University of Salamanca, where he is developing the research project Poetic Memory: Lyrical-Epic Modulations in the Work of Derek Walcott and Raúl Zurita, under the supervision of Víctor Bermúdez. Based on the poetic works of both authors, the study addresses the question of how poetry, in addition to being a channel for the communication of individual and collective memory, is capable of preventing the repetition of future social traumas through the articulation of models of collective action and emotion. His study aims to elucidate, on the one hand, the means by which poetry is involved in the processes of shaping the memory of both the subject and the community in which it is contextualised, and on the other, its capacity to encourage the renewal of human agency over the environment it occupies. In general, his research focuses on geopoetics and the phenomenology of emotions, with a particular interest in the permeability of the embodied mind of poetic subjects and how this theoretically allows for the formation of an intimate relationship between the “I” and all the elements of the literary universe.
He has presented his research findings at four universities within this framework. At the second edition of the Abyssal Margin Seminar at the University of Zaragoza, he gave a presentation on Walcott strategies to reconstruct Caribbean identity around the physical properties of the sea. At the 13th International and Interdisciplinary Congress of Young Historians, “Emotions in History”, he researched the nature of emotions in recent Spanish poetry, and at the two editions of the COPOS, he investigated the relationship between body and landscape in the poetry of Walcott and Zurita. Likewise, at the International Colloquium ‘Emotions and Social Dynamics in Europe/America: Crossed Perspectives’ (Université de Bretagne Occidentale), he showed how the work of Walcott and Zurita uses fiction to create a new model of collective subjectivity that prevents, within the logic of their corpus, future acts of social violence. He recently published the article ‘Poetic Memory in Gonçalo M. Tavares’ A Trip to India’ (Actio Nova, 2024). As a poet, he was a finalist in the II FLGTB LGTBI Literary Contest, anthologist of Sombrillismo. Literary Anthology, and author of Dialogues of the Mundane and the Sublime (Cuatro Hojas, 2022). Since 2025, he has been a member of the International Network for the Study of the Lyric. Samuel Sánchez Gutiérrez is part of the Organising committee of the International Conference on Lyric Theory and Comparative Poetics and of the Cluster COPOS – Cognition in Comparative Poetics at the University of Salamanca.
